The Halford Colony: Bonded by Blood - Press Release

The Happening (2008) - Non Spoiler!

Official Description: A family is on the run from an inexplicable and unstoppable event that threatens not only humankind--but the most basic human instinct of them all: Survival.

My Thoughts: Im not sure what everyone else thinks about this movie since I’ve stayed away from its reviews, however I did read one message online before the movie premiered that stated what the so called “Happening” was. I think if I wasn’t spoiled maybe the movie would have been a better experience. Still, when I really think about it unlike many other Shyamalan flicks that I have come to enjoy I didn’t need to be a rocket science to figure out what was going on in this one.

For those of you who don’t know the movie is basically about an unexpected event/occurrence that first takes place in New York City. As the movie goes on we learn that this is slowly taking over other parts of the world. Strange things are happening. People are losing their minds as seen on many of the trailers and the rest….. well, I wont tell you as you will have to see the movie for yourself. I will say from start to finish I was interested in what I was watching. The first 5 minutes of the movie grabbed my attention and I didn’t find myself bored at any moment of the film. That’s not to say that it was incredible because it was far from it. However I enjoyed this movie. I dunno what it is about M. Night Shyamalan that makes me intrigued with his work. Maybe it’s the way he keeps me in suspense and wondering what is going to happen next, but Im a fan of his work, so anything he makes I will most likely watch.

The Village was a horrible movie. That to me was his worst BIG film that he ever made. At least from the ones I have seen. Keep in mind till this day I have not seen “Lady In Water”. Don’t ask me why because I don’t know. The ending result to The Village was stupid. With “The Happening” I think it had more appeal especially after thinking about what happened in New York City on 911. It felt more believable…in uh, weird ass way.

The only complaint I have of this movie is that I wanted more. I wont tell you what went on in the film, but I will say that I was left wanting answers which I did not get. Its as if all this happened and then in the end we were left with a ridiculous sort of, “Sometimes we don’t know why, but shit just happens” type of feel. Im not sure what would have made the movie better for me, I just know I wanted something, anything to make me walk out of the movie theatre and say, “Ah okay…now I see. Yeah that could happen to us in real life”. See what I mean?

As far as actors go, Mark Walberg did a good job playing a Science teacher who is soon trying to run for his life as well as save his family. I actually enjoy many movies he is in now. He has come along way from his Marky Mark and the Funky Bunch days. Not that those days were bad cuz I still like that song and if played right now in front of me I’d be jamming to it, but you know what I mean. He rocked in movies like “The Departed” and “We Own The Night” just to name two. Hopefully he continues to pick good roles.

Zooey Deschanel was also in this movie and you might remember her from the movie “ELF” because…. Well, that’s where I remember her most from.

Only here she plays the love interest of Mark Wahlberg and is sporting black hair. I wont tell you anymore about their characters cuz I’d just bore you, but I also want to say that John Leguizamo is in this movie as well and being a fan of his, it was good to see him once again in a movie.

Anyways, as far as The Happening goes and with out giving to much away, the movie was interesting. As I said above something happens that makes people go insane and as seen in trailers makes them want to kill themselves. The pace of the movie and the action and kills themselves were good. The movie is not scary as I actually had to laugh in a few scenes. I couldn’t help it. Im sure many people will too. It was good though. The ending wasn’t that bad besides me wanting more explanation as I said. Also incase you are wondering unlike with all his other films this time around M. Night Shyamalan did not make any cameo appearances. Weird, I was hoping he would. He has become like Stan Lee in a sense that I like trying to find a quick scene with him in it, but oh well.

Final Thoughts: I wrote a lot of nonsense with out saying a damn thing since I couldn't. lol. So yeah, I will end this here. If you are a fan of M. Night Shyamalan I promise you that this movie is MUCH better then The Village. Just don’t go in there expecting the greatest movie of all time either. Have fun with it and if you are like me once you are outside you will start thinking of things that happened in the film. I dunno I enjoyed it, but maybe that’s just me. It was kinda cool seeing some scenes that I was familiar with. Not only in New York, but also here in Pennsylvania. I forgot that some shots were actually filmed right next to where I live now. That’s scary sh*t now that I think about what happened in the movie. Oh yeah one last thing before I forget. Samuel L. Jackson is coming out with a movie called “Lakeview Terrace”. It comes out on September 19th.

Its about a interracial couple that become his next door neighbors only to find out that Samuel L. Jackson is actually a psychotic mother f’er that not only will make their life a living hell, but he is also a cop which makes it interesting since they cant really do much about it. Picture the 1992 movie entitled, “Unlawful Entry” and there ya go.

Final Grade: Hmmm…I dunno I’d give it a solid 8 Out Of 10 Superman Logos and when it comes out on Blu Ray and DVD I’ll be sure to watch it again.

OMG!!! What are they looking at in the sky?!? Oh nevermind they are just looking at the news.
