Movie Review: Cabin FeverThe Story: As a last hurrah after college, 5 friends drive to a remote cabin to enjoy their last days of freedom before entering the working world. Suddenly, one of them gets infected with a flesh-eating virus. Fueled by paranoia and hostility, they struggle to survive the virus and each other.
My Review: Going into this movie I must say that I was pumped up to see a good horror flick. I really was. I saw the parts about 100,000 times on TV and theaters, so I knew what it was about. I saw the big Bunny Rabbit and c’mon…this movie looked sweet! What I felt after the movie was over though, was a mixed reaction.
In one side of the movie I like the way the director went back to old School horror and didn’t use any of today’s computer effects. He just used good old fashion blood (which there was a lot of) and added some suspenseful moments in order to bring the viewing audience in and make them feel like they were in the woods, so I liked all that. I’m also glad to see that dude (Shawn aka. Rider Strong) from “Boy Meets World” in this movie because its been a while since I’ve seen him on screen. The movie had two quick sex scenes with some chick that looked hot, so obviously that was entertaining. There was also a vicious dog lurking around the woods which made the movie pretty suspenseful at times. Cabin Fever also had plenty of usage of the word “Fuck” and lots of beer drinking and weed smoking, so basically it was your typical horror flick like it was done back in the day.
On the other hand the movie made me laugh out loud in some parts. I heard the movie would be abit humorous, but I didn’t think it would be this stupid. Even though the director certainly had a good plot, I wanted more. This movie had the “Belief Factor” that I talked about in my Top 10 Scariest Movie list, but at times it fell flat. The weird thing is, I still enjoyed myself as dumb as some parts were. I didn’t think it was horrible, yet I cant say it was great either. It was more like, “pretty good” or “Ok”. Like I said, I’m kind of mixed on this movie. I think what could have made it better was having Tapanga who was also on “Boys Meets World” because I always had a thing for her and she was nice and thick, but um, we’re talking about Cabin Fever, so back to my review.
Best Scenes:
1. The second sex scene because they showed more of the girl.
2. Some little boy out of no where going ape shit and doing karate moves while screaming Pancakes! (Trust me I literally Laughed My Ass Off in that part, so I know you will)
3. The dog chasing someone….I wont say anymore. My reviews are spoiler free.
4. Some white old man and the use of the “N” word towards black people. Once again, I wont say anymore.
Coming Attractions: Before Cabin Fever started they showed parts of a new show coming on Monday nights to NBC called “Las Vegas”. Nicki Cox is in it as well as a few other good actors, so I might have to check that show out. I believe it starts September 22nd. It reminded me abit of the movie, “Casino” with Joe Pesci and Robert Deniro.
Also Halle Barry has a new Suspense/Horror movie coming out in October 24, 2003 called, Gothica. Halle Berry is one of my favorite actresses, so I’ll see that movie just for her. Plus the parts looked pretty cool.
Another movie that looks good is, “House Of The Dead”. Its based on a high selling video game, so hopefully the movie kicks ass, but we’ll have to wait and see. It comes out on, October 10th, 2003
Robert Deniro and Rebecca Romijn-Stamos, are coming out with a movie called “Godsend” (don’t know when it comes out) but its about human cloning and two parents that clone their boy after he dies. The boy then comes back, but different.
Besides that, they kept showing the making of The Rock’s “Run Down”, so I think that movie should do good in theaters. It looks better then The Scorpion King did.
Final Thoughts: Like I said, I have mixed reactions on “Cabin Fever”, BUT I still enjoyed myself in the movies because that’s just me. If you like low budget, Old School horror movies, I suggest checking this out because you might enjoy it. On the other hand, if you like special effects and don’t want to see people coughing up blood, skip this movie and rent in when it comes out on DVD. That simple. Personally I would buy it on DVD if it had some cool features.
